Postcard from http://www.lettr.co/L3KS1hxrrEFqZg !

DSC04451
What is the best souvenir from your travel?
For me personally photos and postcards . . . that can stay with us forever and remind us amazing moments from travel.
What a priceless happiness is to get a postcard from all around the world, isn’t it?!

This everything you can have because of http://www.lettr.co/L3KS1hxrrEFqZg that I want to promote on my blog. Why? Because their idea for me to send such a unique postcard is great !

Just only think how many postcards you bought in your past and you haven’t sent.
Lettr gives you an amazing opportunity to send a postcard from all around the world and what is more without pen and stamp !DSC04448

It is a postcard of the 21st century that allows you to send memorable souvenir with your own photo as easy as sharing it online. What is more it still keeps that very personal touch of a traditional postcard – sender’s handwritten signature.
Back side of your postcard includes a message, map with location (that shows a place where postcard was created-localization service provides authenticity of the place) and what is more with your own signature.
So everything like you know it from a traditional postcard however adapted to the modern style of our life.DSC04445

After your postcard is created online on the smartphone/laptop, it is sent to Lettr center. Then specially designed application sends order to the closest place of the final destination. And be sure that Lettr takes care of express printing and delivery.

Your postcard is printed on traditional paper. The same one as travelers are used to send by local post service. But what is important delivery time is usually 2-3 days instead of 2-3 weeks. Isn’t it great?!

Frankly speaking I have enough of situation when my friends got postcard from my travel after I came back home. . . and I think that the same you have.
DSC04438
Payment for postcard (just only $2.50) is secure and convenient. You can choose from type of payment that you prefers (credit card, debit card or PayPal). You don’t have to buy a stamp and then look for a mailbox.

Here is how does it work:
1. Upload your own unique travel photo.

2. Then write a personal story or greeting.

3. Using your tablet, sign your name or draw a handwritten signature or picture – a wonderful way to add a personal touch and bring back a bit of traditional communication.

4. Sign in to Facebook and select the friends you want to send it to or just write an address of your recipients. And your work here is done! If you use simple Facebook sign-in, and select recipients from your social network, don’t worry about addresses or stamps, that’s not your job! (if you choose this way your chosen contacts will be invited to Lettr to tell where to send the personal postcard you’ve sent).

5. You get back to your travels, and Lettr gets to work! They print your postcard on hand-picked paper and quickly deliver it anywhere in the world.

So isn’t it high time to change our old habit!? It is your choice! To send your postcards from a comfortable sunny place or your favorite one just in a snap of finger (and then continue relaxing) or to choose traditional way with postcard bought in shop, pen and searching for post box.DSC04437

I have already sent my postcard with Lettr and I brightened someone’s day. So trust me, it really works ! Now your turn! You can always send it to Visit Siena! As well as from Siena!
What is more first 10 postcards are for free !

I wish you many unforgettable moments during your travel !

Party On per Siena 2019 !

20140626_222537Siena 2019 – City nominated for European Capital of Culture (Siena 2019 – Città candidata a Capitale Europea della Cultura) made an appointment with a wonderful Party On, the big event that took place just yesterday evening in Piazza San Francesco.

DSC04540Four local bands gave great live concerts. The musicians show opened MK Pisani. Then we could have fun with funk rock group – the Silent Noise. Next was Matteo Frusciante and Lady Ramona revival band, a group that produces mainly covers of big hits rock 60s and 70s. Everything closed the red-hot rock concert of The Dinosaurs, well known for numerous performances unleashed in Siena and province.

20140626_214155However Party On wasn’t just a music event. We were able to admire a great light installations (spectacle of light and 3D animations) that enriched the evening. This was designed by Walter Buonfino (an expert in 3D graphics, video mapping and documentary photographer). Play of lights and lighting installations inspired by the colors and themes of Candidacy was projected on the facade of the Church of San Francesco, transforming the space into sets dynamic and engaging.
The result of this work was an unique explosion of images that excited us an at the same time described through fascinating “stories in motion” the key points of the project application, the magic of a whirling dance of lights, colors and sounds.
It was a spectacular video projection in which the main themes of Siena candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2019 were reinterpreted in an artistic manner.
For sure a unique opportunity where we could admire the artistic heritage of the city.
20140626_221912

What is more during the Party On the staff of Candidacy distributed the new gadgets of Siena, 2019. Like this we could get original bracelet and T-Shirt. Of course I didn’t miss this chance.DSC04559

All initiative was organized to encourage the active participation of young people in the project of Candidacy. It is for sure a crucial opportunity to imagine, discover and build together the future of Siena.

Below I put some photos, however they are absolutely not able to show what we saw yesterday 🙂 This will be one of our priceless memories.

Wish you sunny weekend! The last before Palio that we are waiting for! What is important this weekend in Siena will be a beautiful weather!

Summer time in Marina di Grosseto !

DSC04530Summer time just came and for some of us the best place to spend the day off is the beach.

Fortunately Tuscany also can boast of some marine paradises.

I want to suggest you one of them that is very close to Siena. Marina di Grosseto that is famous tourist destination located only twelve kilometers from Grosseto and is an important seaside resort in Grossetan Maremma.

Just here you have a great opportunity admire its hilly hinterland, rich in macchia and wide beaches overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, with a vast pine forest that extends from Punta Ala to the Uccellina Mountains.DSC04518

What is important because of clear water Marina di Grosseto has received the Blue flag of FEEE (Foundation for Environmental Education in Europe).

All area including the small town is very picturesque, rich in restaurants and beautiful views.

DSC04492You can’t miss very nice and small Port of Marina di Grosseto.

What is more during the summer period you can have a possibility to reach everyday Marina di Grosseto from Siena by MareBus. More http://www.tiemmespa.it/index.php. Single ticket costs 8 EUR or 11 EUR.

A sunny Sunday in Livorno ! :)

DSC04337Today I want to show you some views from another for sure worth to visit place in Tuscany – Livorno! Everything is from last sunny and hot Sunday.

The port city of Livorno is Tuscany’s third largest city after Florence and Prato. However isn’t very popular with the crowds, what I really really like! The city lies on a series of wide canals. This gives an unique for Tuscany atmosphere. What is more compared to another Tuscan cities, Livorno is of ‘recent’ origins and can’t boast the same history.
Livorno was founded just over 400 years ago, and what you can see easily in many ways is so totally different from the rest of Tuscan towns.
DSC04334

Since first sight became one of my favorite cities in Italy. Why is like that? It has everything what I like: sea, canals, picturesque port, small streets, no crowd of tourists, good places to eat/drink, friendly residents and priceless sunsets.

DSC04421From Siena you can reach Livorno easily by train. Travel lasts about 2h and single ticket costs about 10 EUR. From the train station Livorno Centrale there is a shuttle bus number 1 that takes you to the center and harbor (single ticket 1.20 EUR, on the board 1.70 EUR).

DSC04350As you will have the luck to be in Livorno you should see: Terrazza Mascagni, The lighthouse, The Port, “little Venice”, The Fortezza Vecchia and Nuova, The Central Market, excellent fish restaurants, Numerous neo-classical buildings, public parks, Historic churches, The Scali (Manzoni, D’Azeglio, degli Olandesi, dei Saffi, del Pontino, del Pesce and Rosciano), The Cathedral of S. Francesco and much more.

DSC04389I don’t think it is necessary to write more. Just only look below and discover this Tuscan treasure when you will have only such a possibility! I am coming there back for sure soon!:)
Have a happy and sunny Sunday!:)DSC04369

Finding bliss in Italy with Genevieve Hassall

According to my post from 30th April today is second part of my collaboration with Genevieve Hassall. With pleasure I post today her memories from Italy.

Finding bliss in Italy

,,Travelling through Italy was the highlight of my most recent trip to Europe, as I was able to experience the big cities, quiet beach side towns and beautiful nature. I saw the stunning towns of the Italian Riviera and the cities steeped in culture further north.

I started in the idyllic seaside town of Levanto and then travelled to each stunning hamlet of Cinque Terre. Coming from Australia, I am used to beautiful beaches but Levanto is now my dream holiday destination for pure relaxation. Our Villa Clelia B&B host was wonderful and very friendly and the local community was very charming. English wasn’t as widely spoken, which I found refreshing.
levanto

Cinque Terre was more touristy but undeniably gorgeous. I have never seen anywhere like it!

After relaxing on beautiful beaches, we moved north to Florence. Tuscany has to be my favourite region of Italy, I could have stayed so much longer! My only regret while staying in Florence was not visiting Siena. After a few weeks of travelling quite quickly, we were in need of some down time in Florence. I still dream about the beautiful boutiques in Florence! On my first visit to Florence I bought a beautiful wallet and three years later I still get compliments on it.florence

We only had a two-hour train stopover in Milan, which we used to see the Duomo and the very beautiful shopping mall (if you could call it that!) beside it. We stayed for a few nights in Verona and had another wonderfully accommodating B&B host and then spent a day in Venice.

veniceVenice is a must-see destination, but I have to say I preferred it in winter when it was more quiet. In September it was packed with American tourists, which was a little annoying. As a tourist myself, I can’t really complain. Not all Americans are noisy either, but the few that are make up for every other quiet tourists in town.

After Venice, we went to Rome. Rome is an impressive, very masculine city which is huge, sprawling and full of contrasts. I can appreciate Rome’s incredible history, but I prefer beautiful Florence which feels more feminine and quietly sophisticated.

Finally, we stayed in Sorrento, a gorgeous seaside town. From here we made day trips to Capri, Amalfi and Positano. The most blissful day of my life so far was spent on a boat sailing around Capri. It is hard to worry when you’re soaking up the beautiful sunshine, admiring the blue, green and white grottoes and jumping off the boat into the refreshing, deep blue ocean. I love the mosaic work throughout the south of Italy, particularly in Capri and Amalfi. It is easy to see why the region is known for la dolce vita and why it inspires thousands of travelers every year to visit these glamorous holiday destinations.

vernazza Although the towns and cities I visited were very different to each other, throughout Italy two things remain constant: The most delicious food and the most warm hospitality.

I will admit, I am not the biggest fan of “Italian” cuisine back home in Australia. Big pizzas and pastas full of too many toppings and heavy sauces leave me feeling bloated and overwhelmed.

In Italy, the food is perfect. Real Italian food is not as heavy and not as fatty. It is served in much better portions and every ingredient is of such high quality that they do not feel the need to shovel too many flavours into a dish. Small, family-run restaurants were the best.

Our Italian B&B hosts were wonderful ambassadors of their country. They were the friendliest, the most helpful and the accommodation rooms and food provided were the best of our entire trip. They were always amicable and happy to share their recommendations, drawing routes and the best local restaurants on our maps. Many even drove us to the train station at the end of our stay, loading our luggage into their small family car and making sure we made our train on time.

Italy is a destination for couples, friends and families. It brings out your inner foodie and feeds your inner fashionista. It’s hard not to fall in love with history in Rome or art in Florence. I challenge you to hold onto your worries while wandering the streets of Cinque Terre or stress about your diet as you sit down to eat in Levanto.

Italy brings out the best in everyone.
Genevieve shares her beautiful travel experiences on a budget on her blog, Wanderbug, http://www.thewanderbug.com Genevieve owns the photos in this post, Visit Siena has permission to use them.
She has also recently launched Global Gourmand, a new online destination for learning about food culture around the world. Global Gourmand is looking for contributors from around the world to talk about the best food in their country, region or city.

Mille Miglia 2014

DSC04036
And again we could feel like in fairy tale in Siena!

Everything because of the legendary Mille Miglia that took place last Saturday (17th May 2014). What is important only the cars selected from the models which took part in the original race could participate in Mille Miglia.
Race route (from 15th to 18th May 2014) included Brescia, Padova, Rome, San Marino, L’Aquila, Siena, Volterra, Bologna, and again Brescia on Sunday morning, where they were enthusiastically welcomed home for the prizegiving celebrations.

Trust me this unique event is not only for lovers of the four wheels!
Because Mille Miglia is the most beautiful race in the world.
DSC04068
The 2014 program provided participation of 420 cars in the race.

DSC04218This historic competition, crossed like previous years, the historic center of Siena including of course Piazza del Campo. With one only change in comparison to recent years : the traditional control to stamp Piazza del Campo, one of the most appreciated by the competitors of the Mille Miglia since the eighties was placed not as a tradition under the Tower of Mangia, but on the opposite side of the square.

DSC04238Like previous years we had a priceless opportunity to see classic cars from all over the world. This picturesque event was a big attraction for tourists as well as for residents of Siena!

Just only look and don’t miss the chance to see it next year in May, if you are in Italy! 🙂

Pizza in Siena = Il pomodorino !

DSC03925
I know that last time was about food, very special for me . . . and as I see not only for me . . . chocolate!

Also today about food, but two difference: it is not dolce, and it is dainty for Italy . . . so can be only Pizza !

You know very well (when you have been here), or you will learn very fast (when you will be here) that in Italy, in Siena you can get pizza or even one piece of pizza everywhere. It is a good idea to eat something fast for example during your sightseeing.

However sometime you want to eat Italian pizza not in rush (as a fast lunch). Isn’t it great to taste it with a glass of red wine in one of our cozy place!?

That’s why I want to suggest you today . . . Il pomodorino (http://www.ilpomodorino.com/)! There we go.

And I can say without doubts that Il pomodorino offers one of the best pizzas in Siena, that is baked in wood-fuelled oven in compliance with the dictates of the Napolitan Pizza Academy. To prepare every pizza the freshest, top quality ingredients are used, such as Buffalo mozzarella D.O.P. from Campania.

Menu is divided on Le Bianche (white pizza) and Le Rosse (red pizza). Don’t forget only about wine! You can find there a vast selection of Italian wines as well as of international beers and champagnes.

What is more after pizza you can (if you have still some place in your stomach) take the extensive and constantly varied range of dessert that is skillfully prepared by one of Salerno’s historical patisserie shops.

I am sure that you will be charmed by the interior of the restaurant (perfect for romantic dinner) like also by the external part. The second is my favorite. You can ask why. . . Because of the view of course, the best I guess in Siena. The restaurant is situated in one of the most charming corners overlooking a view of inimitable beauty comprising the cathedral, the del Mangia tower and the basilica of San Domenico (Via Camporegio, 13).
DSC03923
Il pomodorino is opened daily from 19:00 to 1:00. What is more from April to October also for lunch.

And the last thing to remember is reservation. Trust me it is good to make it because after 8 pm becomes always very crowded with characteristic queue of waiting people in front of the local.
Ok, that is it from me. . . and buon appetito! 🙂

La festa del Cioccolato Artigianale !

DSC03893
Last weekend on Piazza del Campo was dedicated . . . like every year . . . chocolate!
We had four days of events dedicated to chocolate, which have gathered thousands of Siena and tourists. DSC03881
The feast of artisan chocolate was sponsored by the City of Siena and organized by ChocoMoments and Acai.

During four days took place a lot of interesting events. Such a like: tango show (itinerant edited by Tango Oblivion which started from Piazza Chigi, made a stop in via Pantaneto before reaching Piazza del Campo); Urban Choco Running (150 participants in the urban race sponsored by The Marathon Sports and engaged in a 5 km route in the historic center, arriving in the square where they received a prize bars of dark chocolate); The International Chef Academy of Tuscany (cooking show); workshop “Conoscere il cioccolato” e da “Cioccolato &…”(made in collaboration with Enoteca Italiana , the space devoted to wine tastings, brandy and chocolate). DSC03888

What is more during la festa was also provided the special opening of The Secret rooms of Palazzo Pubblico.

However no doubt that the most chocolate’s place in Siena during last weekend was Piazza del Campo. Just here in the air was the best smell ever . . . chocolate. Like previous years you could be lost in lots of stalls full of chocolate products. And it was impossible to deny yourself a bit of haven’s taste. And trust me the choice was very big. Unfortunately products weren’t very cheap. But once for a while why not!

Now I wish to come back . . . there and I think not only I !
DSC03886
Fortunately chocolate is a treasure that you can always find in my house, for us definitely necessary to survive! So let’s make chocolate day also today! buon appetito!
